Great local brewery on the West Side of Athens!
Welcome, Night Owls, to Akademia Brewing Company.
Our full-service restaurant and brewery — a brewpub — launched in the Classic City of Athens, Georgia, in October 2017, to give craft beer fans a place to eat, drink and call home. We are dedicated to the mission of crafting distinct and consistent ales with unique twists that provide balanced and enjoyable flavor profiles and tantalize your taste buds. And because no beer is complete without a side of food, at Akademia, you can rest assured that you’ll leave with a belly full of pub fare inspired by seasonal ingredients.
As Plato himself reportedly said, “the beginning is the most important part of the work.” The beginning of Akademia Brewing is rooted in nearly 30 combined years of homebrewing beer, dedicated study of the craft brewery market and navigation of state laws regarding breweries. Matt and Morgan chose to go the route of the brewpub, which combines food, drink and space to gather, inspired by the agoras of old.
Beer at Akademia is something yet to be explored in Athens. We have a core set of brews that will be on tap year-round, beers that come out to play at night and more for special occasions. Our hope is that we give you something new to try — an extra special bitter, perhaps, or single-malt barrel-aged stout — in addition to beer styles you know and love, like the IPA, stout, and kolsch. Thanks to an upgrade in Georgia’s beer laws, you can even take your favorites home with you after supper.
The menu features some of our favorite bits that pair well with a brew. We specialize in bringing you not only delicious food that pairs well with beer, but delicious food made with our beer. Whether it’s our ale sauces, beer-braised pork chop or beer-battered fish and chips, we aim to craft an experience you’ll want to come back for every day.
Their beer is great. My favorite is Hoprodisiac….so smooth.
This spot is 15 minutes from downtown, so it’s not part of the walking around downtown scene. This spot is worth the drive to the west side of town. Tyler’s Favorite Beer: IQ Carolyn’s Favorite Beer: Skal Favorite food for us both: Stuffed portabella mushroom (with roasted red pepper sauce, spinach and artichoke) — this is a MUST have. We are carnivores, and this is a vegetarian dish, but if you like portabella mushrooms, you will LOVE this dish! GO, just GO already!
