About 3 Sisters Cafe

Located in the heart of Broad Ripple, We have been one of Indianapolis’ most popular breakfast houses for over 20 years. So stop in and let us warm your day up!

3 Sisters Cafe got it’s humble beginnings in 1992 as a coffee house called the Village Idiot, and current owner Moira Sommers was hired at “The Idiot” as dishwasher not long after.  When, in 1996, Dave Hansmann bought into business partnership of “The Idiot”, he turned it into Three Sisters Cafe.  It’s focus was vegetarian and whole food using locally sourced product, which was a head of its game at that time.  Alex Lloyd was hired as lead cook to develop night-time business at the little known fledgling cafe.  At that time Moira was also moved to the front of the house to help develop night-time business. As it would go, the two fell in love immediately and over the course of the next 20 years, worked to transition the little restaurant into the beloved cafe that it is today. Each brought two children to the relationship, and together had 3 more children.

On November 4th 2005, Moira and Alex with a silent partner would buy the restaurant and turn it into 3 Sisters Cafe.  The cafe would garner lots of love through the years and build quite the cult following.  From that grew the opportunity for 3 Sisters to be featured on Food Networks Diners Drive-ins and Dives. From the success of Diners Drive-ins and Dives we were able to buy out our silent partner and move to a new location in 2014.
